June 14, 2008, Carroll Airey received the 2008 CoDevelopment Canada International Solidarity Award “In recognition for (her) long-standing commitment to education and partnership between communities in Northern B.C. and Nicaragua.”

In presenting the award, Carol Wood of CoDevelopment Canada ( had this to say about Carroll Airey, “I think what makes Carroll such a good recipient for this award is her energy, drive and persistence coupled with her passion for education on international issues. She shows what a difference one person can make. She always takes her lead from kids and the community, both in Houston and in Nicaragua. Carroll also does educational presentations in Northern BC about Nicaragua and fair trade. Her initiatives have improved the lives of families in Nicaragua and Northern B.C.”
